The Intern, Mechatronics Engineer is a pioneer in a job of the future by developing rapid and safe deployment of industrial vehicles from a hardware and safety perspective. This position strives to solve business problems using innovation modeling, mathematical modeling, engineering principals, Automation/Robotics, Lean Six Sigma, computer programming, business knowledge, or other advanced analytical skills. This position conducts research and development of new technologies for both robotics and software technologies. This position is involved in the research, development and prototyping of autonomous systems encompassing areas such as computer vision, object recognition, path planning and following, and electro-mechanical systems and devices.

Responsibilities
- Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
- Monitor failure modes from the field deployments and work on quality improvements through the product lifecycle.
- Manage a research project during the internship that focuses on key Research and Development problems.
- Create Automated Systems and collaborate with the Software Team to control them.
- Conduct research, document findings, and present reports at meetings.
- Design, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices.
- Understand problems or client briefs and develop solutions that satisfy them.
- Perform ad-hoc requests to review, develop, and/or analyze operational or department specific processes.
- Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
- Create and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
- Select the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process.
- Use CAD software like SolidWorks to model electro-mechanical hardware.
- Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to network with others and stay on top of field advancements.
- Program vehicle controllers using various tools and utilities.
- Identify areas of weakness in the production line or finished products and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the setup and maintain design of Software Modules and overall Architecture.
- Other duties and projects, as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Pursuing Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or other related field. Superior academic and leadership achievements, preferred
- Prior experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, preferred
- Experience in leading 3D modeling systems preferred. Controller programming, required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Details
Work Hours:
- This is a temporary onsite intern position for summer 2026 located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, starting approximately June 1, 2026. Work schedule will generally fall between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional irregular hours depending on workload.

- This is an hourly position paid biweekly.
