The Cognitive Engineer designs, builds, and improves AI/ML services that power ArcBest products, enabling seamless interaction between people and digital systems through advanced technologies. This position collaborates with cross-functional team members, including Machine Learning Engineers, alongside stakeholders and external vendors to deliver secure, high-performing solutions that drive business value.

Responsibilities
- Stay current with emerging cognitive technologies, AI/ML trends, and best practices.
- Execute the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, ensuring scalability and security.
- Design and implement robust testing strategies to validate functionality and performance.
- Work with business and application teams to ensure AI systems integrate effectively with enterprise systems.
- Support live environments and participate in on-call rotations for issue resolution.
- Translate technical concepts into business-friendly language and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
- Provide accurate task estimates, communicate updates promptly, and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Other duties and projects, as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, with strong academic achievement, preferred
- Hands-on expertise with AI/ML technologies, including Generative AI and Natural Language Processing, as well as familiarity with multimodal techniques for voice, vision, and text processing, preferred
- Proficiency with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras, preferred
- Familiarity with modern development practices using Azure DevOps and Agile methodology, preferred
- Basic experience in UI/UX design and knowledge of programming languages such as C#/.NET and modern web technologies, preferred
- Understanding of SQL and ETL processes for data integration and transformation, preferred

Other Details
Work Hours:
- Generally, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional irregular hours depending on workload. Position is subject to 24 hour on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Minimal (0-25%)
- This is a salary position paid biweekly.
