Job Description
The Manager, Embedded Software Quality Assurance - Vaux owns software defect prioritization and coordinates rotating software engineers assigned to bug remediation. During each rotation, this position sets the defect priorities, aligns engineering effort to the highest-impact issues, and drives bugs from discovery through resolution and validation. The Manager, Embedded Software Quality Assurance - Vaux also leads the Vaux Robotics testing organization and manages the live testing team and directs day-to-day test planning and execution.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the Testing team.
  • Own the software defect backlog and determine which bugs are solved and not solved based on severity, safety impact, customer impact, field risk, release timing, frequency, reproducibility, engineering effort, and business priority.
  • Run regular defect triage with engineering, product, customer success, and leadership stakeholders and escalate high-risk or release-blocking defects early with clear recommendations.
  • Translate bug reports into actionable engineering work items with expected behavior, acceptance criteria, reproduction steps, logs, test evidence, and priority rationale.
  • Ensure resolved bugs are reviewed, validated, and converted into regression coverage when appropriate.
  • Coordinate a rotating group of software engineers assigned to bug fixing, while partnering with their functional engineering managers on capacity, scope, and expectations.
  • Set the rotation backlog, daily priorities, and acceptance criteria for engineers assigned to the bug-remediation rotation.
  • Balance urgent defect resolution with ongoing product development commitments by making prioritization transparent and data-driven.
  • Track bug-fix throughput, aging defects, reopened defects, root causes, and recurring failure patterns.
  • Create a feedback loop from defect trends into engineering planning, test coverage, design reviews, and prevention-focused quality improvements.
  • Serve as the authority for monthly release candidates, mid-cycle bug-fix releases, and field deployment readiness.
  • Confirm test cases, release notes, change logs, known issues, and validation evidence are complete before release decisions are made.
  • Recommend whether a release should be approved, held, or returned to engineering for additional fixes based on evidence and operational risk.
  • Partner with engineering, product, customer success, solutions engineering, operations, and leadership to align quality work with business priorities.
  • Communicate quality risks, priorities, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.
